TAX CREDIT EXTENDED THROUGH APRIL 30, 2010

On November 5, 2009, Congress approved the tax credit extension for first time homebuyers, and opened it up to some existing homeowners. The tax credit for first-time homebuyers is up to $8,000 and up to $6,500 for repeat buyers. Repeat buyers need to have lived in the same principal residence for at least 5 years to be eligible, and first-time homebuyers must not have owned a home in the last 3 years. Contracts for the purchase must be written and accepted by April 30, 2010, and the home closed on or before June 30, 2010. Homes for both first time and repeat buyers must be used as the primary residence.
